Under the backdrop of economic globalization, the issue of intellectual property rights has become an import element in limiting the development and competition of businesses. On June 6th, the first conference of the lecture series was held in the conference room on the 4th floor of Beijing Chamber of International Commerce Building, and was streamed online. With regards to “the Belt and Road” initiative, and its content concerning the function and important meaning of intellectual property rights, Lawyer Zhang Hong introduced the concept, coverage, characteristics and implications of intellectual property rights, and analyzed the main problems businesses are facing under “the Belt and Road” initiative. He offered suggestions on the acquirement, utilization, protection of intellectual properties and on related risk management and dispute settlement issues. Lawyer Zhang stressed that intellectual property rights must be considered before the market. While Chinese businesses are expanding their oversea ventures, they must, firstly, obtain from the destination countries the authorizations for their intellectual properties, in order to protect the profits of their businesses. Also, for the possible infringement, lack of protection, antitrust regulations and other risks their intellectual properties might face, the businesses must be well prepared and be familiar with the intellectual property situations in associated countries. “The Belt and Road” initiative shall connect one and another, and intellectual property rights shall be the key to a bright future.
