Data recently released by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) data shows that "Patent Cooperation Treaty" (PCT) international patent applications of our country ranked third in the world in last year. The number of international patent applications which were submitted through PCT pathway reached to 2.1516 million in 2013, which exceeded 20,000 for the first time with an increase of 15.6%. Experts said that PCT international patent application has become a ruler for testing China's independent innovation capability. In recent years, the continued rapid growth of China's PCT international patent applications reflected the improving of Chinese enterprises international operating quality and enhancing of the market competitiveness.
In the patent application of domestic enterprises, PCT international patent applications of ZTE and Huawei were ahead of other domestic companies for many years.
The main reasons for the rapid growth of PCT international patent applications of our country are enterprise’s international market-driven and government’s incentive policies for guiding, Xu Chunming, vice president of Shanghai University Intellectual Property, said. With the continuously improving of degree of internationalization of Chinese enterprises,product structure for international competition is gradually increased, the proportion of high-tech products are gradually increase and corresponding internal demand of patent international layout will inevitably produce. And patent subsidy policy of our country constantly adjusted in recent years also inspired the enthusiasm of enterprises PCT international patent applications to some extent.
However, there is still a wide gap of PCT international patent application between China and the developed countries. In addition, China PCT international patent application still has some problems such as the structural imbalances and driving force shortage. PCT International Patent Application narrow the gap between China's key is to adjust the economic structure, enhance innovation capability. The key of narrowing the gap between China PCT international patent and developed counties is the adjustment of economic structure and enhancement of innovation capability.
